Free agent point guards the Chicago Bulls should avoid at all costs: DeVonte’ Graham
Starting off this list is a name that I want to mention that isn’t a point guard that every team should tread lightly with. Former Kansas Jayhawks star guard DeVonte’ Graham played well as a breakout floor general with the Charlotte Hornets in the past two seasons. His numbers even made him a borderline All-Star selection last season.
Graham and the Bulls just wouldn’t mesh well given the needs at hand in the backcourt rotation in Chicago. Less of a true primary ball-handler and standout perimeter defender, and more of a volume-scorer like second-year point guard Coby White, Graham just isn’t what the Bulls need.
The clash in play styles between star shooting guard Zach LaVine, White, and Graham would not be connotative to moving this team forward under the direction of head coach Billy Donovan.
Moreover, the price tag of Graham is also likely to get driven decently high in the restricted free agent market this summer. Graham has never made more than $2 million annually for his base salary. And that makes sense since the Hornets signed him as an undrafted free agent nearly three years ago.
About the only scenario that I could see playing out where Graham would be a valuable free agent target for the Bulls is if White was traded for a true starting point guard this offseason. Graham would also have to come at a cheap price for the Bulls. It doesn’t seem like either of those two scenarios are likely to play out, so it’s best for Graham to sign with another team this summer.
