Chicago Bulls free agent targets worth overpaying for: Spencer Dinwiddie

With the Brooklyn Nets standout point guard Spencer Dinwiddie looking to pass on picking up his player option this summer, he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent. Given the Bulls’ sizable point guard need to fill this offseason, watching where Dinwiddie intends to sign is something of paramount importance for the front office.

But it looks like the Bulls could be a very viable landing spot for Dinwiddie this summer if all works out in negotiations. While we don’t know where Dinwiddie sits in the pecking order of potential point guard free agent targets for Karnisovas and the Bulls early in July, he should be pretty high up there given the other options available.

Dinwiddie was putting up some borderline All-Star caliber numbers last season, and then his 2020-21 campaign was cut short before it could really begin. If Dinwiddie can return to the form he found with the Nets during the 2019-20 season, then the Bulls would be getting tremendous value out of signing him this offseason.

Set to make a little north of $12 million if he had exercised his player option for the final year of his current contract, Dinwiddie looks like he will get a decent pay raise this summer by hitting the free agent market. But if the Bulls can keep the annual salary of Dinwiddie around $15-$18 million, it could be worth it to top the current annual salary figure he got with the Nets.
