Buyout market candidates to watch for the Chicago Bulls this summer: Al Horford
A certain possibility could exist that the Bulls find a way to piece their starting frontcourt together around the pairing of the Celtics and former Oklahoma City Thunder big man Al Horford and the former Orlando Magic star center Vooch. Horford has started to become a true journeyman in recent years, after having a good amount of stability earlier in his career.
The five-time All-Star Horford has played for three different teams in the past three seasons. And if not for landing back with the Celtics this summer in that heralded trade last month with the Thunder that saw star veteran point guard Kemba Walker arrive in OKC, he could be with four teams in four years.
Horford would be a solid fit it seems next to Vooch. Depending on how effectively Horford could defend at the four or the five alongside Vooch, and how well he could space the floor, this could be a nice forming duo if the Celtics are to buy him out.
Any possibility of Karnisovas and the Bulls being able to add Horford by way of the buyout market this summer depends on how the recently promoted Brad Stevens places value on his bloated contract.
Horford is due north of $25 million annually through the end of his current contract. And his current contract runs up at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. But his contract is also only partially guaranteed for that final season.
