Deep sleepers the Chicago Bulls could sign in free agency: Tyler Bey

Although he didn’t come close to putting up the type of numbers as his brother, and All-Rookie First-Team selection Saddiq Bey, former Colorado Buffaloes small forward Tyler Bey was decent in a limited role with the Dallas Mavericks this season. The 36th overall pick of the Philadelhpia 76ers in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft played for the Mavs before he ever got a chance with the Sixers.

But now-former head coach Rick Carlisle and the Mavs only gave Bey the chance to play in 18 games (none of which he started in) during his rookie campaign. He also didn’t get to play in a single game in the Mavs’ first round playoff matchup against superstar forwards Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and the Los Angeles Clippers.

In those 18 games played for Bey during his rookie season, he averaged one point per game, 1.1 rebounds, 0.2 assists, no steals, and 0.1 blocks. And he shot 31.8 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 60.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The key for Bey moving forward is just finding his way in a bigger role elsewhere. If the Las Vegas NBA Summer Leauge does return this summer, then Bey could get some valuable extra exposure.

But for the time being, the Bulls could take advantage of a potential underrated three-and-D wing that will be hitting restricted free agency this summer. Bey could be a nice find for them that didn’t get much of a chance to make an impact as a rookie.
