Former Tar Heels teammates Chicago Bulls’ great Michael Jordan had in the NBA: Scott Williams
The first time that Jordan ever played with a former Tar Heel in his NBA career was when the Bulls landed the former UNC star big man Scott Williams ahead of the 1990-91 season. The Bulls signed Williams as a free agent following the 1990 NBA Draft. And he contributed to three of the title-winning teams for the Bulls during the glory days of the 1990s.
Williams wound up playing for the Bulls for four seasons at the outset of his NBA career. For being an undrafted free agent, Williams had one of the longer careers in the NBA. He landed with the Sixers after his initial run with the Bulls. And he would wind up spending five seasons with the Sixers in the mid-to-late 1990s, the most he did with any one team in his career.
The time when Williams was a teammate of Jordan’s was with the Bulls from 1990-1993. The first of three retirements for Jordan during his playing days in the NBA came following the 1992-93 season. That left one season where Williams played with the Bulls but wasn’t a Jordan teammate.
During his four seasons playing for the Bulls, Williams averaged 4.7 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks.
There were points in Williams’ career where he was a consistent starter. But that never came with the Bulls. He only got 16 starts during the regular season in his time with the Bulls. And he never got a single postseason start during his four years with the Bulls. His first postseason start would come as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2000-01 season.
