Former Tar Heels teammates Chicago Bulls’ great Michael Jordan had in the NBA: Brendan Haywood

One of the former Tar Heels big men that Jordan played with the Wizards (maybe outside of the former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown) was the towering 7-foot and 270-pound Greensboro, NC, native center Brendan Haywood. Just like with Davis, the time where Haywood was teammates with Jordan was during his playing days with the Wizards.

But Haywood was a teammate of Jordan’s throughout the entirety of his two seasons in the nation’s capital. Haywood’s rookie season was actually the first year back for Jordan with the Wizards. He was the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft of the Cleveland Cavaliers. But his NBA debut came with Jordan and the Wizards.

During his first two seasons with the Wizards (and as Jordan’s teammate), Haywood averaged around six points per game, five rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks. He was a decent paint presence for the Wizards and found himself in a consistent role in the starting five by his second season in the league.

During his time with the Tar Heels, Haywood was a big-time frontcourt presence over the course of four seasons. He was a two-time All-ACC big man that averaged just shy of four blocks per game during his senior campaign in 2000-01.

Some of the more efficient seasons that Haywood did have in his NBA career came early during his days with the Wizards.
