All of the focus and attention for the Chicago Bulls attention at times seems to fall on how the front office will solve the point guard problem this summer. The Bulls need to find a solution to this point guard problem this summer if they are to really find their way forward heading into next season.
Point guard is the biggest gap that the Bulls have in the starting five. There are other solutions they can find on the wing and in the frontcourt. But three of the five positions in the starting five are sealed at this point between star shooting guard Zach LaVine, center Nikola Vucevic, and rookie forward Patrick Williams.
The two other spots are likely to be filled by whoever the next starting point guard of the future is for the Bulls and someone like center Daniel Theis or veteran forward Thaddeus Young. There’s also a chance that the Bulls are able to go out and get someone to start in the frontcourt alongside Vooch.
Since the Bulls don’t have a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, they’ll have to turn to either free agency or the trade block to find their solution at the point guard position. Free agency seems to be the first option since the Bulls are both poor on draft capital and somewhat cap-strapped.
They do have options on the trade block, but not as many post-trade deadline after landing the likes of Vooch, Theis, wing Troy Brown Jr., etc. The Bulls might not get the most advantageous trade deal this summer due to that fact, but maybe something will open up.
Lonzo Ball looks to be the top point guard target for the Chicago Bulls
Moreover, the top target it seems at the moment for the Bulls in free agency this summer is the New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball. The second-year Pelican and former Los Angeles Laker had a solid run in NOLA and is about to become a restricted free agent.
But there are still some other options out there to consider aside from Lonzo. Here’s a look into three star point guard targets for the Bulls this offseason that would make a bigger splash right away than Lonzo.
