Former Gators for the Chicago Bulls to acquire this summer: Dorian Finney-Smith

For the past few years, I’ve been a personal fan of the idea of the Bulls trying to add wing depth by trading for a solid two-way small forward like the former Gator and Dallas Mavericks 28-year-old Virginia native Dorian Finney-Smith. The 6-foot-7 and 220-pound Finney-Smith put together a quietly solid season once again for now-former head coach Rick Carlisle and the Mavs this season.

But there could be a lot of change on the way for the Mavericks this summer, with a change in coaching regimes surprisingly taking hold already. Superstar point guard Luka Doncic appears to have a good amount of influence in what’s happening with the Mavericks, as new head coach Jason Kidd and a reshaping front office are looking to elevate this team to a new level.

With that, the Mavs could have some key rotational players on the move this summer if they feel like it helps them reach that elusive next level of contender status while building around Doncic. DFS could be one of those players that’s on the move because of that this summer.

During the regular season, DFS averaged 9.8 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.4 blocks. And he shot 47.2 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 72.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Bulls would be able to immediately add some wing depth if they pulled off what would be an underrated trade to get DFS from the Mavs. He fits that mold of a three-and-D wing that the Bulls don’t really have outside of rookie forward Patrick Williams.
