Free agents the Chicago Bulls could sign as an upgrade over Denzel Valentine: Bryn Forbes
A name that is often underappreciated around the NBA landscape is the former San Antonio Spurs and current Milwaukee Bucks guard Bryn Forbes. Now that Forbes finds himself in a bigger postseason spotlight with the Bucks this year than he did in the past few seasons with the Spurs, that recognition might start coming his way more often.
Forbes played well for the Bucks during the regular season, seeing an increased role with head coach Mike Budenholzer down the stretch. He’s also put up some very solid numbers in the postseason in his last two playoff trips with the Bucks and Spurs. Forbes exploded onto the scene in the Bucks first-round triumph in the postseason this year, against the former Bulls star shooting guard/small forward Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat.
In that first-round win over the Heat, Forbes averaged 15 points per game for the Bucks.
Forbes has also shot better than 47 percent from the field and roughly 45 percent from beyond the arc in his last two trips to the postseason combined. That all came while averaging nearly double-digit points per game coming off the bench, and three rebounds per game.
In his last two seasons with the Spurs, Forbes was a starter in the backcourt for legendary head coach Gregg Popovich. But that likely wouldn’t be his role with Donovan and the Bulls, especially if Karnisovas finds a way to fill the point guard need this summer.
It would be nice for the Bulls to have a backcourt unit, though, that could feature the likes of a new quality starting point guard, star shooting guard Zach LaVine, point guard Coby White, and Forbes as a top-four in that part of the rotation.
