Miles McBride was not a major high school basketball recruit, nor did he make a major impact during his freshman season. However, he burst onto the scene during his sophomore season with the Mountaineers and now finds himself a potential 2021 NBA Draft pick. He was able to improve his game in virtually every category in one year, which happens to a few players in every draft class.
McBride’s offensive game could certainly translate to the NBA. Although he stands at just six feet two inches tall, McBride has an incredible 6-foot-9 wingspan, which has also helped him develop into an elite collegiate defender on the perimeter. His three-point shooting went from poor in his freshman season to well above-average as a sophomore, knocking down threes at above a forty percent clip.
He also carved out a nice role as a playmaker with West Virginia, distributing for his teammates at a high level while keeping his turnovers to an impressive minimum. Though he is very efficient as an outside shooter, defender, and passer, his game inside the three-point line on offense is still a work in progress and could be a struggle for him at the next level, given his lack of height.
McBride probably isn’t going to be someone an NBA franchise would trust with running their offense as the number one point guard, but a reserve role is not out of the question at all for McBride, considering he can do a bit of everything for you on the floor.
