Chicago Bulls trades to get a 2021 first-round pick
The biggest trade of the offseason thus far happened just last week, and it involved the Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics. The former employer of the Bulls head coach Donovan just got a big piece and a big contract in the former Celtics and Charlotte Hornets veteran star point guard Kemba Walker.
The Thunder also get Kemba’s large contract for the Celtics 2021 first-round draft pick. That just added to the massive pile of draft picks that Sam Presti has in OKC. And this is something that could bring some new trade partners to the table for the Thunder. They also now hold the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft lottery.
In this particular trade deal, Kemba winds up getting traded for the second time in as many weeks, along with a few other notable pieces. The Bulls ship off Young, combo guard Tomas Satoransky, and Aminu to the Thunder for a return of Kemba, two first-round draft picks, and power forward Darius Bazley.
This deal really hinges on how much the Thunder value getting that Kemba contract off of their books to start building out this roster now. The hope for the Thunder originally was to get in the top three in this lottery, but they are still positioned well in the first round.
The Bulls would likely get two non-lottery first-round draft picks out of this deal, along with Kemba and his big contract. Along with that, the Bulls get three of their other biggest contracts off of the books to help establish essentially a big four of Williams, Vooch, LaVine, and Kemba.
