Most realistic point guards for the Chicago Bulls to sign: Spencer Dinwiddie
There might not be a huge gap between what Schroder and the Brooklyn Nets standout point guard Spencer Dinwiddie would bring to the table in the minds of a lot of Bulls fans heading into next season. If this were last offseason, it would be easier to convince someone that Dinwiddie was the better signing of the two, by a good margin.
But you never know what a player coming off an injury like Dinwiddie is will return to the following season. Dinwiddie suffered an unfortunate season-ending knee injury just prior to the turn of the calendar year. And it will be nine or 10 months between regular season games played for him at the outset of the 2020-21 campaign.
The good news for Dinwiddie (and any suitors of his) is that he has reportedly not suffered any major setbacks during his recovery from this devastating knee injury. A report from Bobby Marks of ESPN over the weekend declared that Dinwiddie has not only rehabbed well in the past few months, but he should also still be one of the “top point guards” in free agency this summer.
That is to say that he exercises his player option and becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He could still pick up the final year of his current contract for one more season with the Nets. That largely depends on how much he values a starting role and more money in a longer-term deal, compared to contending for a title next season with the Nets.
