Former superstars the Chicago Bulls could sign: Dwight Howard

It was a different story as to why the Philadelphia 76ers veteran center Dwight Howard saw a decline in his star status in the past decade than Griffin. Howard was the best center in the NBA with the Orlando Magic a decade ago. But once he landed with the Los Angeles Lakers and the late and great Hall-of-Fame shooting guard Kobe Bryant in the early 2010s, Howard’s career faced a  downward trajectory.

Howard was actually very effective, though, for the Sixers and Lakers in each of the last two seasons. Howard actually got his first-career title last year with the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Lakers. He’s also an eight-time All-Star selection, eight-time All-NBA Team selection, and a three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

It was a long time ago that the 35-year-old Atlanta, GA, native Howard was a superstar in this league. But he was effective for the Sixers this season, posting a player efficiency rating north of 17 and .159 win shares per 48 minutes. Howard also managed to register nearly nine rebounds per game and one block in just six starts during the regular season (69 total games played in).

Howard isn’t likely to cost too much if a team like the Bulls were to sign him this summer. His last contract that he signed with the Sixers last offseason was essentially a minimum deal. If the BUlls want to get some veteran help in their frontcourt rotation to shore up this unit behind Vooch, center Daniel Theis (if he re-signs in Chicago), forward Thaddeus Young, etc., then Howard could be a good option.
