Adding the right pieces to the roster can be how the Chicago Bulls front office has a successful offseason. Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley have a lot to focus on this summer, including building out the appropriate supporting cast for the star duo of shooting guard Zach LaVine and center Nikola Vucevic.
The Bulls front office also has a large looming task to give head coach Billy Donovan even more resources to find more success in the win column. Donovan did more shuffling of the rotation down the stretch this season than he did at the outset. But that started to happen more after all of the big roster moves that Karnisovas and the Bulls made at the trade deadline.
Moving forward, the Bulls will have a good number of options as to how they build out the rest of this roster. The problem that the Bulls face this offseason is their lack of cap room. The Bulls aren’t likely to have anything close to the cap space needed to sign any star to a contract with max-level money.
How the Chicago Bulls can best spend their money in free agency?
Someone of the tier of the Los Angeles Clippers superstar forward Kawhi Leonard would be a tremendously difficult, if not completely improbable signing, for the Bulls this summer. Since the Bulls are likely to have around $14-$18 million (depending on which players hit free agency in this cycle) to spend this summer, they’ll need to be very efficient with the contracts they do sign.
Trying to find a player that once was a star, or even a superstar, in this league that could come to the Bulls at a cheaper price now in the latter days of that free agent’s career could be a good way to go for Karnisovas and the Bulls. Here’s a look into three former NBA superstars that the Bulls could sign this offseason.
