Stars Chicago Bulls’ SG Zach LaVine has praised: Karl-Anthony Towns
It’s a well-known fact at this point how special the relationship is between the Minnesota Timberwolves star big man Karl-Anthony Towns and his former teammate in LaVine. KAT and LaVine played together with the Timberwolves over the span of two seasons before that infamous Jimmy Butler trade happened during the 2017 offseason.
LaVine and KAT were first-round draft picks of the Timberwolves just one year removed from each other. The Timberwolves picked LaVine 13th overall in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft. And then they picked KAT with the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
In their two seasons playing together, LaVine and KAT were pretty solid. But they were also really young at the time and had yet to meet their potential.
A piece from Jace Frederick of Twin Cities in March 2020 detailed how LaVine felt about the unit that the Timberwolves had in the mid-2010s including him. The other two potential budding stars at the time in Minnesota were Andrew Wiggins and KAT. LaVine stated that he felt like they were a “three-headed monster” waiting to happen.
That has some truth to it since LaVine and KAT have combined for three All-Star selections in the last three years. But the fact of the matter is that the situation that LaVine has found himself in with the Bulls has likely helped to vault his career since the Timberwolves traded him away four years ago.
