Former Chicago Bulls point guards to bring back this summer: Kris Dunn
Among the former Bulls point guard that actually played in a game for this team at some point recently, I would be the biggest fan of the idea of getting the defensive stopper and former Providence Friar Kris Dunn back to Chicago. The 6-foot-4 and 205-pound Dunn found himself in a more effective role during his final season with the Bulls in 2019-20.
Dunn is not going to be the starting point guard of the future for the Bulls, unless something very (and I mean VERY) seriously dramatic changes in the trajectory of his career. What he could be, though, is one of the best perimeter defenders in the Central Division once again as an anchor for this backcourt rotation on that end of the floor.
All it took for the Atlanta Hawks to sign Dunn out of restricted free agency last offseason was giving him roughly a $5 million contract. And in place of Dunn, the Bulls wound up signing the former Nets veteran shooting guard Garrett Temple for roughly the same price tag.
The Bulls actually got much better defensive production out of Dunn during his time with the team compared to Temple. And with the Bulls having more leadership in the locker room now among the veterans than they did at this time last year, signing Dunn might not be out of the question.
Dunn should be able to come to the Bulls at a cheap price. He only played in four regular season games this year as he worked his way back from a knee injury he actually originally suffered with the Bulls last season.
