3 former Chicago Bulls point guards to sign this summer
Former Chicago Bulls point guards to bring back this summer: Derrick Rose
The idea that could polarize nearly the entirety of the Bulls fan base this summer is the possibility of signing the New York Knicks veteran 32-year-old Chicago native point guard Derrick Rose. The Bulls former MVP winner and three-time All-Star had a nice recovery in his career to date, but he might not want a return to Chicago so soon.
It was still less than five years ago that GarPax had a trade that hit Rose hard it seemed (as seen in the “Pooh” documentary) when it first happened during the 2016 offseason. The Bulls actually originally dished D-Rose out to the Knicks. But his first stint with the Knicks didn’t work out as well back during the 2016-17 season as it did compared to this season.
Rose continued his ascent back to relevance in the NBA landscape this season under head coach Tom Thibodeau with the Knicks. Prior to landing with the Knicks this season in a trade after the turn of the calendar year, Rose was making his way back to relevance in a new form of himself with the Detroit Pistons and Timberwolves.
There could eventually be a very welcome reunion between D-Rose and the Bulls. He is one of the all-time fan favorites for this franchise. But it might just be too polarizing to happen right now, despite the solid production that Rose is giving teams at the one in a role that most often has him as a reserve on a value contract.
The idea of signing Rose is better than it might play out in reality. Still, it is an idea that the front office might consider given the need for proven point guard production in the rotation heading into next season.
