Turning back the clock is a move that the Chicago Bulls were not very fond of in recent years. The Bulls haven’t really had many retread signings since the rebuild began. They had the chance to sign former star players such as center Joakim Noah and small forward Luol Deng, among others, since the rebuild began in 2017, but passed on bringing them in to mentor the younger players.
In the first three years of the rebuild, it was John Paxson and Gar Forman making the decisions as the lead voices in the front office. But even with the change in front office regime last year, the Bulls still didn’t want to take the approach of turning back the clock to construct this roster.
Any former Chicago Bulls worth signing this summer?
Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley are very likely going to place more emphasis on overall fit in terms of the in-game scheme than just running it back to please the fans and the locker room. The Bulls might still be able to find some value, though, among their former players in free agency this summer.
The biggest need that the Bulls have to fill this summer, likely by way of the free agent market, is at the point guard position. Finding someone that can be the starting point guard of the future is the elephant in the room for Karnisovas and Eversley. But adding depth to the backcourt behind whoever is that new starting point guard is important too.
If the Bulls find the fill to that void by way of a former player from this team, who could it be this offseason?
