Players the Chicago Bulls regret trading from the past 10 years: Jusuf Nurkic

Although he never played in a single game for the Bulls, the current Portland Trail Blazers standout big man Jusuf Nurkic is certainly a player that GarPax regretted trading on draft night 2014 in hindsight. The Bulls actually parted ways with two solid draft picks during the 2014 offseason in the same package with the Nuggets.

On draft night 2014, the Bulls had that famous trade where they parted ways with Nurkic and shooting guard Gary Harris for the return that mainly consisted of the former Creighton Blue Jays small forward Doug McDermott.

While Harris certainly could’ve contributed a good amount of value to the Bulls’ backcourt rotation in the years after the 2014 draft, the impact felt wouldn’t have matched what Nurkic could’ve brought to the table. Nurkic was really solid for the Nuggets and Blazers in the past three or four seasons. And if he can stay healthy for an entire regular season, then he should garner his first All-Star nod before too long.

McDermott didn’t wind up doing much for the Bulls, and they struggled to find a big man to build the frontcourt rotation around after Joakim Noah was done in Chicago.

The Blazers actually have Nurkic on one of the better value contracts in the entire league among big men. But that contract will only last one more year before Nurkic becomes an unrestricted free agent. He will be due just $12 million in the final year of his current contract. A healthy Nurkic produces at a level that is a lot more valuable than that.
