Appealing Chicago Bulls FA targets on one is talking about: Hamidou Diallo
A particular position of need that the Bulls could have this offseason, depending on how things shake out with the front office’s impending free agent decisions, is at the shooting guard/wing. The Bulls are set to see shooting guard/wing Denzel Valentine and Temple enter the free agent market if Karnisovas and Eversley don’t decide to re-sign them this summer.
There also wasn’t one true backup that the Bulls had at the shooting guard/on the wing last season. And while that role could be filled over the long haul by the former Wizards shooting guard/small forward Troy Brown Jr. (if he pans out next season), the Bulls still do need to fill some rotational depth at this spot.
The former Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons potent and vertically gifted 22-year-old 6-foot-5 and 200-pound shooting guard/small forward Hamidou Diallo could be the way for the Bulls to go. Chicago got familiar with Diallo, just like head coach Billy Donovan was, during the regular season when he was playing for the divisional foe Pistons.
Donovan also coached Diallo up when he was the bench boss in Oklahoma City. Since Donovan was let go as the Thunder head coach last offseason, Diallo actually saw a lot of growth in his game. He averaged roughly a career-best 12 points per game, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. And Diallo shot 48 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc, and 64 percent from the free-throw line.
Diallo is set to become a restricted free agent this summer and could be an underrated target for the Bulls. He would provide more longevity at what should be a cheap price for the Bulls if they sign him as an RFA this offseason.
