Appealing Chicago Bulls FA targets on one is talking about: Ish Smith

Adding a veteran point guard for the Bulls could be a good option depending on what happens with a good portion of the backcourt rotation heading into the thick of the summer months. The Bulls might not keep combo guard Tomas Satoransky around for that much longer, and the team will also be without White for at least the next three or four months.

White injured his shoulder in non-team-related basketball activities last week, and the successful surgery he had will be followed by a lengthy recovery process. That could be why it is worth it for Karinsovas and the Bulls to look into signing the veteran Washington Wizards point guard Ish Smith out of free agency this summer.

The Bulls could use a solid offensive spark plug and veteran presence that Smith has provided at a number of different landing spots of late. If the Bulls were to sign Smith this summer out of free agency, this would be a dozen teams that he’s played for in his lengthy NBA career to date. That is nearly the pure definition of a career journeyman.

He wouldn’t hold a huge role in all likelihood for the Bulls this offseason, but if there’s an opening in the backcourt rotation then Smith would be a cheaper way to fill it. He would surely be an upgrade over the likes of point guard Ryan Arcidiacono and even the inconsistent ways of White at some points.

Smith averaged a dozen points per 36 minutes, seven assists, and six rebounds while shooting 43 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc this season with the Wizards.
