PG targets for Chicago Bulls that don’t fit with Zach LaVine: Goran Dragic

If the Bulls already had a true starting point guard to build around this offseason, I would actually be rather intrigued by the possibility of adding the Heat veteran floor general Goran Dragic by way of free agency this summer. The problem with that is that the only way that the Bulls front office could really afford that is if they get their first-round draft pick back thanks to top-four protection.

In that situation, the Bulls would be able to draft a point guard like the former Gonzaga Bulldogs freshman star Jalen Suggs, or the reigning All-American and Oklahoma State Cowboys point guard Cade Cunningham.

However, the Bulls have just a 20 percent chance of getting back into the top-four by way of their draft lottery pick protection.

Signing Dragic sounds good in theory, but he’s too inconsistent at this point of his career for the Bulls to truly rely on him as their starting point guard for the next couple of years at least. There was a point in Dragic’s career in which the Bulls could’ve found a lot of utility for him in a starting unit that also involved stars like Vooch and LaVine.

Yet, LaVine is getting to the prime years of his career, and Vooch is already there. The Bulls can’t afford to strike out on a veteran point guard target in free agency like Dragic when there are other more viable options out there.

The 6-foot-3 and 190-pound one-time All-Star Dragic is currently 35 years old and his production declined dramatically in the past three seasons. His next contract still could pay him nine figures annually, which would be a tough spot for a team like the Bulls to be in.
