Chicago Bulls players who deserve a second chance: Javonte Green

If Donovan and the Bulls want some defensive help back in the backcourt rotation next season, they should look no further than to re-sign the former Boston Celtics 27-year-old 6-foot-4 and 205-pound shooting guard Javonte Green. Karnisovas and the Bulls landed Green in that deadline day deal with the Celtics that also brought them center Daniel Theis.

Both Green and Theis were in the midst of contract years during the 2020-21 season. Thus both are set to hit unrestricted free agency this summer. If the Bulls can do anything about it, they should make an effort to re-sign both of the former Celtics’ role players. Green and Theis could both offer a lot of value to this rotation moving forward.

Green in particular could provide the Bulls with a sizable boost on the defensive end of the floor. And even his offensive production picked up a good bit down the stretch with the Bulls. If the Bulls could a season out of Green where he remains a net positive on the defensive end, while shooting better than 45 percent from the field and closer to 35 percent from beyond the arc, it would be well worth it to have him back.

Green didn’t make it on this list because he had a poor showing with the Bulls down the stretch and would need the front office to take a risk on him by re-signing him this summer. There just seems to be a decent chance that he hits free agency this summer, and the Bulls look elsewhere for help at the two-guard. I think he could be a good fit with this team for at least one more year.
