Chicago Bulls players who deserve a second chance: Devon Dotson

For the two players that the Bulls have in their two-way contract slots from the 2020-21 season, the one that seems more likely to return is the former Kansas Jayhawks star point guard and undrafted free agent signing Devon Dotson. The 6-foot-2 and 185 pound Chicago native 21-year-old floor general could be a good piece of the Bulls’ second or third unit moving forward.

In the limited minutes that Dotson did get with the Bulls during the regular season/his rookie campaign, he was efficient. If you don’t put any limits to the qualifiers for who you include in the leaderboard, Dotson ranked among the top three Bulls players in terms of win shares per 48 minutes, box plus/minus, and player efficiency rating in the season that was.

A lot of Bulls fans would agree that Dotson should hold a more prominent spot in the rotation over someone like fellow two-way contracted player and shooting guard/wing Adam Mokoka, point guard Ryan Arcidiacono, etc. Some would even argue that he should get more playing time than 27-year-old shooting guard/wing Denzel Valentine.

If nothing else, executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley should give Dotson another shot to return for the Bulls in a two-way contract slot again next season. He deserves more minutes in the rotation and would make sense to give more playing time to under Donovan next season.
