Chicago Bulls players that won’t be playing here in 21-22: Adam Mokoka
The two-way contract slots for the Bulls this season were occupied by the second-year French shooting guard/wing Adam Mokoka and the former Kansas Jayhawks point guard and undrafted free agent signing Devon Dotson. Most Bulls fans would agree that it would be better for the front office to bring back the latter of those two players in a two-way contract slot next season.
Mokoka got his second year with the Bulls in a two-way contract in the season that was. And while he’s showed flashes at times, and played well in one stint with the Bulls in the Las Vegas Summer League, it feels like his time with the team is winding down this offseason. Mokoka just was never able to make a true breakthrough in the Bulls wing rotation.
There were surely plentiful opportunities under Donovan in the season that was, and under former head coach Jim Boylen during the 2019-20 campaign, for Mokoka to break into the rotation. A lack of a developed offensive skill set and the lack of an ability to make a true impact in the G-League made it tough for Mokoka to prove to the Bulls that he was worth more minutes.
In his last two seasons in the G-League, Mokoka never registered more than .011 win shares per 48 minutes. And he had a putrid offensive rating at 72 during the 2020-21 campaign in four games in the G-League.
With a full year for Karnisovas and the Bulls’ new front office and scouting department in place now, there should be other candidates they are looking at to fill one of the two-way contract slots this summer. While Dotson deserves another opportunity with this team, it’s tough to envision a future for Mokoka here.
