Chicago Bulls trades with the Cavs for Collin Sexton

As the Bulls get set to have a big looming free agent decision concerning fourth-year power forward Lauri Markkanen this summer, they also need to figure out what role White will hold moving forward. Coby did regain the starting point guard job under first-year head coach Billy Donovan down the stretch last season.

But there wasn’t much traction consistently for White in any one role with the Bulls rotation last season. While executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley look to still have some level of buy-in for developing White heading into the future, if they can get Sexton it might be the right time to let him go.

In this particular trade deal, the Bulls get involved in talks with the Cavs to get Markkanen to Cleveland as part of a sign-and-trade. The Cavs haven’t been traditional trade partners with the Bulls in the recent past, especially with sign-and-trade deals. But this could make sense for all parties involved.

The Bulls can give a fresh start to a former solid piece of the Cavs rotation in small forward Cedi Osman, who is tossed in to help match salaries with whatever price tag Markkanen commands in his next deal. Osman is one of the larger contracts that the Cavs would likely want to get off the books in the near future.

And White could be an interesting fit for the Cavs to start reconfiguring their backcourt rotation if they do want to part ways with Sexton this summer.
