Chicago Bulls offseason targets that fit with Patrick Williams: Paul Millsap

A favorite potential free agent target of mine for the Bulls this summer is the veteran Denver Nuggets and former Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap. Despite his huge contract not really giving the Nuggets the value they would like it to, Millsap is still a solid piece for a team trying to make a deep playoff run in the Western Conference.

Millsap is a four-time All-Star, and one-time All-Defensive Team selection in his decorated career to date. He just doesn’t have a ring to his name as of yet. And if the Nuggets don’t want to bring him back heading into next season, then ring chasing might be the move for Millsap this coming cycle of free agency.

The current contract that Millsap is on was frontloaded. Last offseason, the Nuggets exercised the team option in his contract to bring him back for at least one more year. The final year of his current contract pays him exactly $10 million for the base salary. And he might get even less than that this offseason.

If the Bulls could get an eight-figure deal with Millsap this offseason, then it would be well worth their troubles for pursuing him in free agency. The way his game developed in his early years in the NBA is something that the Bulls could give to Williams to help mentor him moving forward. Doing for the Bulls what Millsap did for the Hawks back in his hay day would be a success for Williams over the long haul.
