Realistic trade targets in a Lauri Markkanen deal with the Chicago Bulls: Spencer Dinwiddie

It didn’t take very long until the Brooklyn Nets were without standout 6-foot-5 and 215-pound point guard Spencer Dinwiddie in their backcourt rotation during the regular season. Dinwiddie only played in three games for the Nets before he suffered a brutal season-ending knee injury. It is a shame too since Dinwiddie had a very solid breakout 2019-20 campaign.

Knowing the insane amount of depth and talent that the Nets boast in their backcourt rotation at the moment, finding a spot where Dinwiddie can make an impact in a starting unit might make sense for all parties involved. And the Nets could definitely use a floor-spacing big man that could fit in nicely alongside the superstar trio of guards James Harden and Kyrie Irving, and forward Kevin Durant.

Dinwiddie has an upcoming player option that he could pick up this offseason. Even if he opts out, the Bulls would at least have the chance to pursue him in unrestricted free agency.

But if he does pick up his player option, and maybe still wants to find a more prominent role elsewhere, then the Bulls could be a very viable landing spot for Dinwiddie. The Bulls need a point guard that won’t cost them too much, and might not be too risky of a contract to take on over the long haul. And Dinwiddie could be that fit for them.

Dinwiddie could be the starting point guard that the Bulls are looking for. Even if not, he would be a tremendous addition to their backcourt rotation that won’t strap their cap sheet much further. The final year of Dinwiddie’s current contract, assuming he exercises his player option, is only worth around $12 million.
