Realistic trade targets in a Lauri Markkanen deal with the Chicago Bulls: Derrick White

The appeal of Markkanen to the San Antonio Spurs front office and legendary head coach Gregg Popovich appears to be real headed into the summer months. San Antonio sounds like it could be a very viable landing spot for Markkanen when it’s all said and done. And there’s a number of ways that Karnisovas and the Bulls could make a deal happen with the Spurs to get Markkanen to San Antonio.

What Karnisovas and the Bulls have to get right heading into the summer months if Markkanen is likely to land with the Spurs is what pieces they get in return. The Spurs have a plethora of future draft capital that could be interesting to get in return, and there are a few players that could be a good fit with Donovan and the Bulls too.

One particularly interesting potential trade target if the Spurs and Bulls get into talks this summer involving Markkanen is the 6-foot-4 and 190 pound Colorado native combo guard Derrick White. What the Bulls could have in a second unit backcourt rotation between Derrick and Coby could be pretty intriguing.

A lot of the faults in Coby’s game could be cleaned up by the versatile and aware Derrick on either end of the floor. And the explosiveness volume scoring ability of Coby from either guard position is something that isn’t present in Derrick’s skill set either. That could be a nice pairing between Derrick and Coby, and matching salaries with Markkanen is very possible too.
