Big offseason decisions for AK and the Chicago Bulls: Is a Zach LaVine contract extension on the horizon?
One key Bulls player that all fans should want around for a good while longer is the star former UCLA Bruins 26-year-old shooting guard Zach LaVine. The first-time All-Star selection had another career year with the Bulls, and he is one that is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career next summer.
While Karnisovas and the Bulls are locked in at least for one more season with LaVine, it looks like the foundation they are trying to build is around him and Vooch. Letting him walk for nothing in free agency next summer would make little to no sense compared to how much they gave up to get him a star-running mate at the trade deadline.
LaVine is set to make $19.5 million in the final year of his current contract. And he’s definitely looking to get a lot more than that with his next contract that he signs. The Bulls and/or LaVine might be willing to wait this one out. But this is surely a discussion that will be important to note for a lot of Bulls fans in the coming months.
If the Bulls don’t manage to sign LaVine to a contract extension in the coming months, it will surely be a hot topic of discussion all throughout next season. LaVine wants to get into the postseason for the first time in his career, and no one should blame him for that.
It’s up to Karnisovas and Eversley to put the right pieces around him if he continues to improve his game. Getting him the right supporting cast is a huge looming task for the Bulls front office this summer.
