Draft targets for the Chicago Bulls to compliment Zach LaVine: Daishen Nix

One of the fast risers up draft boards in the past couple of months is the former G-League Ignite sizable 6-foot-5 and 205-pound point guard Daishen Nix. A former five-star recruit that was once a commitment of the UCLA Bruins, Nix passed on the traditional college route to take his talents straight to the professional ranks.

He played with a team stacked with talent in this NBA Draft class with the Ignite in the G-League bubble this season. Nix played alongside a host of interesting teammates with the Ignite including Green small forward Jonathan Kuminga, and the 37-year-old former NBA journeyman point guard Jarrett Jack.

Nix had flashes of brilliance during his one season playing in the G-League. But there’s also a number of areas where he still must improve his game moving forward. Namely, he was a solid rebounder and distributor for Ignite while playing at the one. That is something the Bulls really need in their backcourt rotation over the long haul.

Shooting well under 20 percent from deep was something that was not a positive mark from the season that was for Nix in the G-League. He also shot well below 40 percent from the field. But he was a good perimeter defender, averaging just over one steal per game. And he averaged more than five assists and five rebounds per game.

There’s a good chance that Nix could still be on the board when the Bulls pick in the second round of the 2021 draft. And Nix could be a good long-term fit for them alongside LaVine, second-year point guard Coby White, etc., in the backcourt.
