Chicago Bulls: Projecting the 21-22 starting 5 if they trade for Lonzo Ball
Chicago Bulls 2021-22 starting five if they traded for Lonzo Ball
Starting Power Forward: JaMychal Green
Another position in the starting unit that will have a number of question marks for the Bulls heading into the summer months will be the four. The Bulls do have the option of starting Williams at the four in his sophomore campaign in the NBA. But that might not be able to maximize both his ability and the effectiveness of the overall starting five.
With the Bulls having two potential candidates to be the starting power forward next season hitting free agency this offseason, the question marks are likely to be answered in the midst of the summer months. Those two looming Bulls free agent big men are Lauri Markkanen and Daniel Theis.
If the Bulls see one, or both, of those bigs walk this summer, then they’ll have to find answers here elsewhere. And we already saw that playing veteran forward Thaddeus Young at the four next to star center Nikola Vucevic doesn’t always work out too well.
This is where the Bulls could turn to signing someone like the veteran 6-foot-8 and 230 pound Denver Nuggets power forward JaMychal Green. With Green set to hit free agency this summer, he could be a good low-cost option for the Bulls that also fits well alongside Williams and Vucevic.
The Bulls would continue to have the freedom to play Theis at the four or five off the bench and keep Young in a more switchable sixth or seventh man reserve role too. Green is having a solid season for the Nuggets and brings a plethora of postseason experience to the table.
While I’m not saying that Green is the perfect fit and is guaranteed to land with the Bulls this offseason, it could be a good move for the team to get a free agent like him to Chicago.
