Chicago Bulls: Projecting the 21-22 starting 5 if they trade for Lonzo Ball
Chicago Bulls 2021-22 starting five if they traded for Lonzo Ball
Starting Small Forward: Patrick Williams
It’s hard to tell at this moment what direction would be best for the Bulls rookie forward and former fourth overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery, Patrick Williams, positionally in the starting unit. We do know the fact that the Bulls should be starting Williams at either the three or the four next season. But his game could be best served in different ways in each spot.
Given how much ground the starter at the four can have to make up for the Bulls’ lackluster defense at times, it could be best for Williams to take on matchups on that end of the floor against true wings. He could get his defensive game together faster, and not have to waste as much energy on that end of the floor.
Of the nearly 2,000 total minutes that Williams played for the Bulls during the regular season, most of it was spent at the three. Williams played 57 percent of his minutes at the three, and 41 percent at the four. That switchability will come in handy for Donovan in the future, but keeping him at the three might be the best move upfront.
The Bulls would also have an incredible amount of length and athleticism among their starting guards/wing next season were they to feature a trio of Ball, LaVine, and Williams. This would also be a trio that is currently an average age of just 22 years old. The future would be bright for the Bulls in this case.
