Chicago Bulls: 3 Players Coby White should study in the playoffs
Players Chicago Bulls Coby White Should Study in the Playoffs: Chris Paul
Sometimes it is best to not overthink things. That’s what brings us here. Any young guard in the NBA should study Chris Paul closely in general, these playoffs obviously included.
Paul offers some of the same things as Conley in regards to how White can learn from him due to playing alongside an elite scorer in Devin Booker. It’s a different situation due to the fact that Paul is the traditional point guard in every way and an all time great at that.
That’s where the extra value comes from, though. No, White should not try being someone he is not on the court. He still needs to maintain his scoring mentality and make sure that’s a key part of his game.
What he can learn from Paul is limitless, though. First off is the process Paul has in patiently dissecting a defense. When watching him, it sometimes feels like he is moving slow with the ball in his hands.
A lot of the time it feels that way because he is. He is always analyzing the defense and setting up the path to the next pass to a shooter or cutter. Every dribble and step he takes is to put himself and his teammates in the best spot possible.
Another benefit of the patient approach he has on offense is the added threat it brings as a ball handler when throwing a little change of pace at defenders. Even at Paul’s age with his mileage, his methodical approach allows him to use a burst and quick first step to blow by an unsuspecting defender.
If White can bring the same patience and mentality to his game he would add a whole new level to what he can do on offense. Another thing he should watch closely is Paul’s defense. CP3 is an all time great point guard and a large part of that is he does it on both ends.
Not only does he use his quick hands to get in passing lanes, he also will be a pest to opposing guards by getting up in their space and making life difficult for them. Paul is the kind of player any young player can learn from, including Coby White.
