Key pieces of the Chicago Bulls new core to build around: Patrick Williams
Definitely one of the most promising and talented young players for the Bulls is their fourth overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery is the rookie former Florida State Seminoles forward Patrick Williams. Down the stretch in the season that was, Williams was solid for the Bulls. And near the very end of the regular season, he started to show the much-needed aggressiveness on offense.
Williams definitely has the potential to become a regular All-Defensive Team selection. And at his peak, the comparisons to big names like Kawhi Leonard and/or Paul Millsap might not be that far off. Williams has to consistently remain aggressive on offense and get his confidence and rhythm in order to truly reach his potential on that end of the floor.
It does look like it was a good move for Karnisovas and Eversley to snag Williams fourth overall in the 2020 draft. At one point, that looked like a reach. But Williams showed his potential in bunches during his rookie campaign, and there’s a lot of building excitement for where his game can go next.
If his confidence does pick up on both ends of the floor next season, Williams should be able to take one step closer to stardom. And his game continuing to round out will mean that he brings more utility to the Bulls starting five. It feels like the worst-case scenario at this point for Williams is to be somewhat of a better version of Al-Farouq Aminu.
