Grand prize Chicago Bulls FA targets to watch in the playoffs: Mike Conley
One of my personal favorite potential veteran free agent targets for Karnisovas and the Bulls this offseason is the longtime Memphis Grizzlies point guard, now starring for the Utah Jazz, Mike Conley. The 6-foot-1 and 175 pound 33-year-old former Ohio State Buckeyes guard Conley is set to see the massive deal he signed with the Grizzlies back in 2016 run up this offseason.
When the Grizzlies signed Conley to a five-year contract worth more than $150 million in total back in the summer of 2016, they made him one of the highest-paid players in the NBA. That salary is now fairly common among players that have a max contract under their belt.
In the final year of his current contract, Conley is making a little north of $34 million. Conley is not going to command that level of money on his next contract. But the first-time All-Star selection is likely to still get north of $20 million this offseason, depending on where he lands next and how he performs in the postseason for the top-seeded Jazz.
Conley and the top-seed Jazz will be waiting to see what happens between the Warriors and nine-seed Memphis Grizzlies on the night of May 21 to figure out who their opposition will be in the first round. For the time being, it is worth considering the move to sign Conley if he doesn’t return with the Jazz next year for a team like the Bulls.
