Chicago Bulls: 3 players Donovan should be disappointed in from 20-21
Coby White, PG
Witnessing the improved play of the second-year former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Coby White down the stretch this season was nice for Bulls fans. He didn’t catch fire down the stretch this season in the same way he did in the final weeks of his rookie campaign last year, but he still did show signs of life when it mattered.
White definitely did enough down the stretch to prove that he at least deserved to be the starting point guard for Donovan and the Bulls over Sato. He also did enough to essentially improve his counting stats and shooting percentages across the board. That is a good way to round out his sophomore campaign in the NBA, but White still has a long way to go.
There still needs to be a lot of work done for White as a defender and with his decision-making at times as a primary ball-handler. White still averaged nearly 2.5 turnovers per game, just 0.5 steals, and 0.1 blocks. His defensive rating and defensive box plus/minus rating were also numbers among the worst on the Bulls this season for White.
Since this looked like it could be a season where White made some serious strides in his game on both ends of the floor, this was a largely disappointing body of work as a whole. The fact that most of his advanced metrics either didn’t improve much, or actually declined to some degree, also shows that this was a mostly disappointing body of work this season for White.
