Al-Farouq Aminu, F
My honest take on the price of the contract of the newly acquired veteran 6-foot-8 and 220 pound 30-year-old forward Al-Farouq Aminu is not an accurate representation of the value he could bring to the table for most NBA teams. Aminu still offers the two-way value that should keep him in the NBA for at least a few more years.
With the lack of significant playing time for Aminu since landing with the Bulls at the trade deadline back on March 25, it just doesn’t make much sense for this team to give him borderline eight-digit figures on the cap sheet. Aminu is getting the type of role that someone with a non-guaranteed contract and/or two-way contract would have down the stretch.
Aminu has only played in six games for the Bulls since landing in Chicago at the trade deadline. In total, he has only played in 23 games this season between his time with the Bulls and Orlando Magic. And in those 23 games played this season, he’s averaged 4.4 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks.
Namely, it’s the length, proven experience, and defensive ability that Aminu brings to the table that could still make him a valuable commodity around the NBA. But given the lack of playing time this season, he’s definitely not living up to the billing of a contract that will pay him more than $10 million during the 2021-22 campaign.
