On the season so far, first-year head coach Billy Donovan has left a lot of confusion in the minds of Chicago Bulls fans as to the direction of this team. Even in the current season, there was a divide in the Bulls fan base as to whether the best move for the team was to tank the rest of the way or to try and contend for the final spot in the play-in tournament for later this month.
It’s becoming clear over the course of the last two games the Bulls aren’t going to tank it. But given that they were riding a four-game losing streak before turning it around heading into the weekend, it’s hard to tell if winning out will even be worth it for this team.
The Bulls are doing much better, as anticipated, following the return of star center Nikola Vucevic and shooting guard Zach LaVine to the starting unit.
Heading into the offseason, there’s still a lot of looming question marks for Donovan and the Bulls. They need to get their cap sheet right, and that can lead to more freedom to make positive roster moves and shuffle the rotation in the proper fashion during the 2021-22 campaign.
Right way for the Chicago Bulls to make roster moves this offseason
Moreover, the annual “who’s not worth the price of their current contract” rankings are back for the Bulls as we are approaching the beginning of the 2021 offseason. This will be a critical summer for executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley. The continued alterations to the roster construction will have a microscope on them in the months ahead.
With Karnisovas and Eversley at the helm, there look to be fewer bloated contracts on the books this year. But there are still remnants of the old front office regime of John Paxson and Gar Forman on this cap sheet. That will be a mess for the new front office duo to deal with this offseason.
Here’s a look into three Bulls players that aren’t living up to the price of their contract this season.
