Chicago Bulls playing for a roster spot: Ryan Arcidiacono
The former Villanova Wildcats point guard and undrafted free agent Ryan Arcidiacono was not a very valuable source of offense at any point of this season for the Bulls. There were past years when Arcidiacono was a solid role player off the bench for former head coach Jim Boylen. But that came a time when the Bulls had the defensive stopper Kris Dunn as the future franchise point guard.
Times have greatly changed since the former front office regime of John Paxson and Gar Forman handed Arcidiacono a three-year contract extension worth about the minimum per season (around $3 million). On paper, the counting stats and shooting percentages don’t look too bad for Arcidiacono this season.
The problem moving forward for Arcidiacono will be where he fits in this rotation. The Bulls are likely to find other options at the point guard position to command their second and third units. Second-year point guard Coby White and combo guard Tomas Satoransky already look to be better options in the backcourt rotation than Arcidiacono.
There were times when Arcidiacono’s ability as a cautious and efficient primary ball handler, and a good shooter from deep, would come in handy. But in a season where his assist-to-turnover ratio is dropping and his shooting percentages are taking an even further nosedive, the writing could be on the wall for the future fate of the former Villanova star.
