Spencer Dinwiddie could fill the Chicago Bulls point guard need

There’s a good possibility that the Bulls will look into what it would take to get standout former Colorado Buffaloes 6-foot-5 and 215 pound point guard Spencer Dinwiddie from the Brooklyn Nets. Dinwiddie might be an option for executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley to fill this particular positional need on the roster.

The Bulls have a clear need to fill at the point guard position. Neither Coby nor Sato has consistently filled those shoes at the one in the starting five this season.

Dinwiddie has missed nearly the entire regular season to date for the Nets, as he’s now recovering from a devastating ACL injury he suffered back in December 2020. That ACL injury ended Dinwiddie’s season really before it could begin. Beyond the fact of how tragic it is for anyone to suffer an ACL injury like that of Dinwiddie’s, it was a shame to see his season cut short coming off a tremendous 2019-20 campaign.

For much of last season, Dinwiddie was considered to be a dark horse candidate to be an All-Star selection to represent the Eastern Conference. Maybe he could bounce back to some version of that form he found last season.

Heading into the offseason, Dinwiddie has a player option that he can pick up that would pay him a little north of $12 million for the 2021-22 season. That would be a pretty solid bargain price for the Bulls if they were able to find a trade that worked to get Dinwiddie from the uber-talented Nets during the looming offseason.
