New Chicago Bulls that aren’t likely to return in 2021-22: Al-Farouq Aminu

There are two players that could really round out this list for the Bulls amid those new acquisitions who might not return beyond this season. The first, and one that would receive the spot on this list of honorable mention if such a thing existed, is the undrafted free agent and former Kansas Jayhawks rookie point guard Devon Dotson. Since Donovan just hasn’t given him many minutes in the rotation this season, one of the Bulls’ two-way contract slots might be filled with someone else next offseason.

And the other choice, the one who got the final spot on this list, is the former Magic veteran forward and 6-foot-8 and 220 pound 30-year-old Al-Farouq Aminu. Since landing with the Bulls, Aminu has only got 24 minutes of playing time over the course of three different games. He’s played in less than one-quarter of the games he possibly could’ve since landing in Chicago at the trade deadline.

In that trio of games played for Aminu since landing with the Bulls this season, he’s registered just two total points, a solid nine rebounds, one assist, no steals, no blocks, and two turnovers. He hasn’t hit on any of his three attempts from the field or from beyond the arc, but he is perfect on two tries from the free-throw line.

Once this season is over, Aminu will have just one year remaining on his current contract. There’s a chance that the Bulls new front office could make a trade for him next offseason, or waive him completely. That would open up a good bit of room on the cap sheet and in the rotation. His contract next season will pay him just north of $10 million.
