Stars the Chicago Bulls could pair with Zach and Vooch: Kyle Lowry

A current member of the struggling Raptors (that are improving a big of late to challenge the Bulls in the Eastern Conference standings) that is about to hit the free agent market is the veteran star point guard Kyle Lowry. The one-time NBA Champion, six-time All-Star selection, and one-time All-NBA Team selection still has some solid years left in his career.

Lowry currently sits in the midst of the final year of his current contract. There’s no player or team option that the Raptors are facing with Lowry entering the offseason. Hence he’s likely to hit the open market in the near future. The current contract for Lowry pays him $30 million annually with the Raptors.

Maybe if Karnisovas and the Bulls are able to get Lowry for a fraction of the price of what his contract is now, then he would be worth going all out for in free agency this offseason.

The 35-year-old former Villanova Wildcats star Lowry wouldn’t be a long-term fit for the Bulls, but he would add to the win-now mantra that the front office is trying to build with this roster. Lowry would also surely fill the need at the point guard position that the Bulls have at this point in time.

In 41 games played with the Raptors this season, Lowry averaged 17.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And he’s shot 43.5 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Lowry might be able to hold a role with the Bulls where he is both a mentor to younger guards like the former North Carolina Tar Heel Coby White and make an immediate impact for this starting unit.
