Stars the Chicago Bulls could pair with Zach and Vooch: DeMar DeRozan
It seemed like a legitimate possibility that the San Antonio Spurs were going to part ways with the former Toronto Raptors star and veteran guard DeMar DeRozan at the trade deadline last month. But the Spurs opted to hang onto DeRozan at least through the rest of the current season. The Spurs do sit in prime playoff position in the Western Conference at this point of the regular season.
The 6-foot-6 and 220 pound 31-year-old former USC Trojans star has played really well for the Spurs this season. As the Spurs have retooled the roster around him in the last two years, DeRozan remained a solid steady presence for this team during the current season. The Spurs even parted ways with the other part of their former star duo with power forward LaMarcus Aldridge getting bought out post-deadline.
DeRozan is a two-time All-NBA Team selection and a four-time All-Star in his decorated career. And he’s having another solid season for the Spurs, making him what should be one of the most highly touted free agent targets this coming offseason.
In 49 games played with the Spurs this season, DeRozan averaged a team-high 21.0 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And he’s shot 49.2 percent from the field, 26.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Since landing with the Spurs from the Raptors three years ago, DeRozan has turned into more of a primary ball handler and premier facilitator. He would make for an interesting pairing with LaVine were the Bulls to get him out of free agency this offseason.
