Chicago Bulls Offseason Untouchables: Patrick Williams

Starting off the list is the Chicago Bulls current rookie that was selected fourth overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Williams selection at number four came as a bit of a surprise initially, but through most of his rookie season, he has displayed the traits and skillset that make one understand why the team liked him so much.

Williams slotted into the teams starting five from day one and has looked comfortable the entire time. He has shown to be a team player, which may explain some of the reason he has so easily taken a backseat to the teams’ established players.

Still, even when taking a backseat at most times, the upside has oozed through the screen each and every night. The Bulls will not be moving on from their early selection after one year, and fans should expect the wing to be on the team for years moving forward.

Offensively, Williams has displayed a smooth stroke and looks like he will be a knockdown shooter for many years to come. Most impressive has been his mid-range game, where he has looked lights out when he is playing with confidence.

As the Florida State product continues growing and developing, it is scary to imagine what his offensive game will become. He still is working on attacking the rim and creating his own shots, but that will come with time. He is the second-youngest player in the NBA right now.

The defense is what everyone was selling about Williams game after the draft. So far, that has proven to be accurate as a strength of his. Early on he already showed the ability he has on that end to become a defensive stopper.

His length, athleticism and instincts on the defensive end of the floor project him to become a defensive force in the coming seasons. More so than he already is.

Often times he has been exposed by the likes of Devin Booker or LeBron James when on defense. That is acceptable for such a young and raw player. The things he needs to work on will be what makes him a night-in and night-out defensive stopper moving forward.

The Chicago Bulls selected him fourth overall for a reason. That is why he will remain an untouchable trade asset in the coming offseason.
