Trying to figure out the Chicago Bulls can become exhausting, every game brings on a new scenario, with circumstances of the ever-evolving new-look team. Some nights they are productive, running smoothly, most evenings reality sets in. It’s a reality that sees how much work is still left, for now, fans can enjoy the rare win.

Snapping a five-game skid against the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 17, in a must-win matchup, the Bulls brushed themselves off and came out on top, winning in clutch fashion 106 to 96. The win safeguarded the 10th seed, for now, a play-in tournament is in sight, still, a lot of games to be played, to get there.

Desperation and urgency were on full display, without All-Star shooting guard Zach LaVine for the second game in a row, winning now has become more important than ever. Ending this wild season strong is important, forcing guys to step up, can help in the long run.

The good in the win for the Chicago Bulls

A lot of good came out against the Cavaliers, snapping a five-game skid, winning without LaVine, and competing for an entire 48 minutes. The flow of the offense looked smooth, sharing the basketball, getting to their spots. Just an encouraging win, any win at this point fans will take.

The Bulls had 30 assists on 40 made field goals, getting everyone involved was key in the win. staying engaged and moving without the ball has helped to spread the floor. Open driving lanes are created by off-ball movement.

Finding ways to be effective no matter the role this season has been an adjustment for every player on this team. Rookie forward Patrick Williams finally had a good game after a stretch of poor performances.

He played with confidence and willingness to take on a bigger role in the offense. Williams had 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. His defense and court awareness still are above-average skillsets for the first-year player.

Center Daniel Theis has been great so far for the Bulls. His energy and physicality, give them much better depth in the frontcourt. His versatility is important, especially if the Bulls look to make a push for the play-in-tournament.

The bench played outstanding, stepping up big in a much-needed win. A complete team effort was needed to seal this one. Fourth-year forward Lauri Markkanen was instrumental in the win. He added 16 points and six rebounds, it was the first game since April 8 that Markkanen or Williams scored in double digits. Point guard Coby White contributed, his nine assists were crucial in the win.

The bad in the win for the Chicago Bulls

The Bulls finally snapped a five-game losing streak, so I’m not going to pick out everything wrong in the game. White is going to need to step up his scoring if the Bulls are going to have any chance of making the playoffs.

Yes, his nine assists are great but his terrible shot selection at the time, mixed with his decision making proves costly. As much as White played in the flow of the offense, he cannot seem to be both, scorer, and distributor.

The Bulls committed 11 turnovers, which is not a bad number for them. The 14 points scored off those turnovers is what is concerning. When you add in long scoring droughts, giving points away isn’t going to get the job done.

The inability to get to the free-throw line has plagued the Bulls all year. The latest loss in the ninth game in a row that they have shot less than 20 free throw attempts. The Bulls need to get aggressive forcing the calls and driving when possible.

The ugly in the win for the Chicago Bulls

Not too much ugly in this win. I just want to address a huge concern as we look to add to the win column. Letting teams stick around in games is going to hamper any playoff hopes. Giving up leads is going to end this season on a very negative note.

Making the playoff is critical in the development of this young team. Finding a way to win without their superstar is going to be a true test. Hopefully, the Bulls do not fall out of contention before LaVine can get back.

Being suspect with leads has to end, mustering up a win against the shorthanded Boston Celtics on April 19 becomes vital in keeping this season alive. A battle for a play-in will be a wild ending to the season. Are fans ready?
