Definitely the most noticeable disappearance (if at all possible) for the Bulls in the last few games came courtesy of the rookie former Florida State Seminoles forward Patrick Williams. The fourth overall pick for the Bulls in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft started to play pretty well after the conclusion of the All-Star Break last month, but that quickly faded in the last two weeks.

Williams is still showing out at times on the defensive end of the floor, but that’s not making up for his overall lack of presence on the offensive end. The stat that became well known in the loss to the Grizzlies that Williams went essentially two games worth of quarters without making a single field goal attempt was just plain sorry.

This is a rookie with way too much potential and ability to work past opposing defenders to be fading out of the offensive gameplan like that. Williams did finally break that streak of quarters without a single field goal, but he still finished up last game with a pretty bad stat line.

In the loss to the Grizzlies, Williams registered just three points on 1-of-3 shooting from the field and 0-of-1 from beyond the arc. That went along with three rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Williams’ defense continues to improve, but his confidence and rhythm on offense need to follow suit.

Since the All-Star Break concluded, Williams averaged more than two points less per game, 0.5 less rebounds, but more steals, and blocks per game. While Williams has quickly faded away from offensive relevance for the Bulls of late, his defense remains tough. It does need to translate on both ends of the floor for him, though.
