Maybe the most impressive breakout for Donovan and the Bulls since the trade deadline involves the play of the lengthy 6-foot-7 and 210 pound 29-year-old Czech combo guard Tomas Satoransky. Taking over in the starting point guard role a few weeks back for second-year point guard Coby White, Sato is playing really well for the Bulls of late.

Nearly across the board this season Sato’s numbers are improved. He’s averaged 8.2 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And Sato shot 52.6 percent from the field, 42.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 92.2 percent from the free-throw line.

What’s even more impressive for the way that Sato is playing for the Bulls this season is how well he’s doing in a starter role compared to coming off the bench. In 14 games played this season as a starter, Sato averaged 10.4 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks. And he’s shot 53.8 percent from the field, 40.5 percent from beyond the arc, and an insane 94.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Sato is defending much better this year when he’s in the starting five, and he’s the reliable primary facilitator that the Bulls drastically needed playing at the one. With one more year still left on Sato’s contract after this season concludes, he could remain a key piece of their starting five (or at least the backcourt rotation) heading into the 2021-22 campaign.
