10 former Chicago Bulls still trying to find a home in 2021
Tyson Chandler, C
It was a long time ago that the Clippers selected the 7-foot and 235 pound towering Hanford, CA, native center Tyson Chandler with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft. At the time, the Clippers packaged together Chandler to form a draft-night trade with then-general manager Jerry Krause and the Bulls.
On draft night 2001, the Bulls shipped off potential future Hall-of-Fame big man Elton Brand for a return of Brian Skinner and Chandler. The now 38-year-old Chandler wound up playing for the Bulls for five seasons prior to landing with the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. He would wind up playing for eight different teams in his NBA career through the end of last season.
And the last team that the one-time All-Star selection, three-time All-Defensive Team selection, and 2011-12 Defensive Player of the Year, played for was the Rockets last season. He played in 26 games for the Rockets last season (five of which he started in). And Chandler averaged just 1.3 points per game, 2.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.3 blocks.
Any team that is looking to sign Chandler off the free agent market this year would have to put in a big effort to try and get him to want to return to the league before retirement. Chandler hasn’t officially announced any retirement yet, but he also hasn’t played for any team so far this season.
There are not many more experienced veterans that have at least one ring out there than Chandler to sign down the stretch this season, which makes him a viable candidate to get scooped up in the near future.
