10 former Chicago Bulls still trying to find a home in 2021
Zach Norvell, PG/SG
A point guard signing that I myself was pretty excited about for the Bulls in Training Camp/the preseason was the former Gonzaga Bulldog and Chicago, IL, native point guard/shooting guard Zach Norvell. The 23-year-old 6-foot-5 and 205 pound former Simeon Academy product Norvell didn’t really get a consistent shot to make an NBA roster as of yet.
But it’s not ever easy for a former undrafted free agent signing like Norvell get a consistent shot to make an NBA roster in his early years in the league. Norvell has now tried to make headway with three different NBA teams to date in the Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Golden State Warriors.
Down the stretch last season, the Warriors signed Norvell to a 10-day contract. But that 10-day contract with the Warriors didn’t wind up sticking for Norvell since Golden State didn’t make it to the bubble last year.
Norvell actually started out his NBA journey with the Lakers, signing a two-way contract two offseasons ago. The Lakers would end up waiving him less than six months later, though, in December 2019.
The Bulls signed Norvell out of free agency in late November 2020, just so he could be waived around the start of the regular season. In five games played (two with the Lakers and three with the Warriors) in his NBA career to date, Norvell averaged 2.0 points per game, 1.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.4 steals, and no blocks. And he shot 25.0 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 100.0 percent from the free-throw line.
